Este quadro de competências apresenta uma abordagem muito completa e estruturada para a formação de cidadãos conscientes e ativos em relação à sustentabilidade. Ao dividir as competências em domínios cognitivo, intrapessoal e interpessoal, o modelo reconhece que o desenvolvimento de uma cidadania sustentável passa não só pelo conhecimento e compreensão dos problemas ambientais, mas também pela construção de valores éticos, resiliência pessoal e capacidade de agir em conjunto com outros.
Gosto especialmente do destaque dado à importância do pensamento crítico e sistémico, que são essenciais para compreender a complexidade dos desafios ambientais e sociais atuais. A inclusão da literacia em sustentabilidade e da consciência global reforça a necessidade de uma visão ampla, que vai para lá do local, e prepara os cidadãos para agir numa escala internacional e intergeracional.
