Description

Today’s society is faced with several challenges related to sustainability, which require the uptake of new teaching and learning methods. New learning approaches require new models to assess students. With students in the center of their own learning, student assessment must be redesigned to offer the necessary diversity and robustness to accommodate students’ diversity and effectively assess their progress. Furthermore, educating for sustainability and citizenship requires educating for competences and action.

This resource guides educators in a new way to assess their students, considering their diversity and with focus on competence development. It shifts the assessment focus from a result oriented to a process oriented approach, that offers each and every student the necessary opportunities to succeed.

In this resource, educators can find a step-by-step guide to plan and carry out student assessment as well as already made (and editable) rubrics to assess competence development. The already-made rubrics relate to the green competence framework created by the JRC of the European Commission and are adjusted to three levels: primary, secondary and University.

How to use this resource

To use this resource, educators should follow the step-by-step guide to reflect on and plan a meaningful assessment approach. Educators can also use the already-made rubrics, or they can download the editable version and adjust them to their own needs.
