Description
Data Explorers is an action-packed learning experience on Minecraft Education, using data skills to protect our planet. Students take on the role of a data-scientist, who also happens to have magical powers. Their mission is to rescue five leading environmental experts who have been kidnapped from earth by an inter-dimensional dragon.
Hosted on the Minecraft online virtual world, students travel through portals to five different ecosystems: rainforest, grassland, caves, glaciers and desert. In each ecosystem they will meet locals who explain their environmental problems. Together with the locals and the kidnapped expert, thy will solve the problems using data. This will help students to develop crucial skills of data recognition, verification and application.
How to use this resource
Using the Data Explorers Teachers’ Guide, you must start by downloading Minecraft Education and the Data Explorers world and resources. From here, students can explore the five portal worlds and the challenges presented in each. As the Teachers’ Guide sets out, teachers will help students reflect on their learning around data literacy, environmental protection and key competencies.
