Date: May 6th 2025, 6 – 7:30 PM (CET)
Speaker: Dr. Klaus Thuneke (Senior Research Associate, Technologie- und Förderzentrum, Straubing, Germany)

We are happy to present the next webinar in our series, Global Goals, Local Impact: Sustainably Ever After! The webinars in this series are free of charge and conducted in English.
Dr. Klaus Thuneke is a Senior Research Associate and Deputy Head of the Department Renewable Fuels and Materials at the Technologie- und Förderzentrum in the Centre of Excellence for Renewable Resources in Straubing, Germany.
He is involved in the research and evaluation of climate-friendly and sustainable fuel alternatives and propulsion systems for agricultural mobile machinery. The focus is on technical, but also economic, ecological, and social aspects. In the field of renewable materials, his team is developing sprayable and biodegradable renewable covering materials for plastic film replacement in agriculture.
In his presentation, Klaus Thuneke will outline the current situation and the targets for drive energy consumption for agricultural machinery. He will then give an overview of the most important alternatives to fossil diesel fuel, such as vegetable oil fuel, biodiesel, bio-CNG, bio-LNG, HVO, e-fuels, hydrogen and battery-electric drive systems.
The characteristics of these various options will be compared with each other and the benefits as well as the challenges for agricultural application will be emphasised. Finally, on means of a scenario he will show what the future drive energy mix in agriculture could look like and what measures are available to the stakeholders involved to foster the transition to climate-friendly drives in agriculture.
Teachers will gain valuable insights into renewable energy solutions in agriculture, offering inspiration for lessons on sustainability, technology, and real-world environmental challenges.
