The Erasmus+ Teacher Academies initiative aims to establish European partnerships among teacher education institutions to enhance the quality of teacher training across Europe. By promoting cooperation and embracing multilingualism and cultural diversity, these academies support the continuous professional development of teachers throughout their careers. The initiative focuses on improving support for teachers in the early stages of their careers and fostering their ongoing development. Erasmus+ Teacher Academies contribute to the European Education Area by developing the European and international dimensions of teacher education, ensuring teachers are well-equipped to provide high-quality education across Europe (European Education Area).
As an Erasmus+ Teacher Training Academy, SYNAPSES is entirely in line with the general priority of the Erasmus+ Programme: “Environment and fight against climate change”. It will provide pre-, and in-service teachers and school heads with the competencies, skills, and tools to provide impactful and innovative lessons for their students. This will improve the quality and efficiency of education and training and provide needed support to educators.
To respond to the constraints and lack of sufficient teacher qualification in Environmental Education, SYNAPSES will pave the way towards modular-based teacher training that will empower them and provide opportunities for teaching innovation to happen. SYNAPSES will bring added value to essential programmes such as the Erasmus+ programme, as it will improve and enhance the quality and use of informal teacher and school head courses offered specifically under Key Action 1 and that are published e.g., at School Education Gateway. The developed framework and standards will make it easier for teachers to identify the most appropriate course and organise the courses more systematically.
