The introduction of Sustainability Citizenship (SC) as part of the student’s learning experiences will empower them to make use of their rights as citizens and to adopt the role of a change maker for sustainability within their communities. SC learning scenarios should embed the student’s understanding of the importance of the balance between economic, social and environmental aspects. It will encourage them to adopt practices that contribute to the welfare of their communities and to bring awareness about their attitudes towards sustainable purchasing, reduced consumption and green mobility. Above all, it will emphasize the importance and principles of being an active citizen and participating in social changes. Schools will be transformed into environments where members of the schools and local communities are invited to practice sustainability in their daily lives, making informed decisions and transforming their community and environment towards a sustainable future.
