The GreenComp competence framework is designed to support the enhancement of an individual’s knowledge, skills and attitudes to live, work and act sustainably. It presents a series of 12 competencies organised in four different areas:
It invites people to become critical thinkers, grow their ability to make decisions and increase their literacy for the future change agents of our future. The GreenComp aims to empower individuals with a sustainability mindset by promoting empathy, responsibility and care for the environment.
The integration of the GreenComp in education requires the integration of several learning approaches such as problem-based learning, challenge-based learning, etc. (find more information on the learning approaches in the designated area on the SYNAPSES portal – Inspiring Practices. It also invites users to adopt an experimental approach to learning stimulating as such a mindset to embrace and promote sustainability practices.
The implementation of the GreenComp Framework helps school leaders foster a sustainability culture among the members of the school and local communities. It support the integration of relevant professional development opportunities and drives the organisational change. It encourages the adoption of transdisciplinary learning and empowers the adoption of a holistic approach to education and community engagement.
