Pupils will be guided through this complex topic by the challenge based learning method. However, in the beginning there is not going to be a BIG IDEA as it says in the provided template but a BIG QUESTION in form of a cartoon. The cartoon depicts a chicken standing in the middle of a cut down forest and eating the tail of a jaguar. At this point no further information are given, these will be provided at a later moment. Looking at the cartoon students are suggesting what the topic might be. They should feel free to think wild. Then they will be divided into groups (Chicken-Forest-Jaguar). In the second part, the research part, they will have access to a Padlet. This Padlet will be also divided into breakout rooms, each room is dedicated to a group (Chicken-Forest-Jaguar). The break out rooms offer preselected materials (videos, info texts, graphics, research tasks) so that students do guided research. In the end of the template students are well informed but also suggesting solutions to their challenge.
The second part of the lesson is meant to bring the information about the three topics in relation to each other. Pupils are going to present their canvas and their research and their solutions to it. By presenting the outcome of each group students understand the meaning of the cartoon fully.
