The 1st Kindergarten of Kalampaki implemented a Green Action Plan titled “Walking School Bus – Shared Responsibility for Sustainable Mobility”, as part of its participation in the European program SYNAPSES.
The main goal of the action was to promote sustainable mobility and ecological awareness through the creation of a “walking school bus,” in which children walk to school accompanied by parents.
The project was structured around a clear timeline (March 2024 – June 2025) and utilized tools such as BeeBots, recyclable materials, digital maps, and questionnaires. It was evaluated using both quantitative and qualitative criteria (e.g. participation of children and parents, submission of proposals, student creations, etc.).
The plan is considered realistic and achievable, as it was tailored to the needs of young children using play-based and experiential learning methods, in collaboration with local authorities, the Traffic Police, and the University of Huddersfield.
The initiative culminated with the establishment of Walking Day as an annual school event, enhancing family involvement and embedding sustainability education into the school’s daily culture.
