This educational scenario stems from a school Environmental Education program titled “Routes of Tastes, Scents, and Music: A Proposal for Alternative Tourism,” carried out at the Gymnasium of Arnissa, Pella, Greece. It focuses on agrotourism and sustainability as tools for local development and environmental awareness. Through experiential learning, students explore the concept of agrotourism, distinguish it from mass tourism, and design sustainable tourism routes. The program follows the principles of the “Active Citizen and Sustainable Citizenship” curriculum and uses SYNAPSES portal resources. Students investigate local natural and cultural assets, propose eco-tourism ideas, and engage with local stakeholders. They create digital products (maps, posters, eBooks), collaborate with international student networks via SYNAPSES, and reflect critically on tourism’s social and environmental impact. The scenario includes classroom and field-based phases and culminates in community presentations. Key teaching strategies include place-based, inquiry-based, and challenge-based learning.
