Dilemma's

Some common challenges or conflicts might arise around the topic of SC.

• Priorities (Economic x Environmental): Balancing environmental protection with economic growth can be very challenging. Often, sustainable practices and solutions can be very expensive and their use is more demanding than traditional methods.  This aspect goes hand in hand with the access the various communities have to the necessary resources to implement the envisioned sustainable change.
• Responsibility (Individual x Collective): Thinking of the greater good for the community might require some personal sacrifice. Determining the balance between these 2 sides can be very challenging and require discussions and a common understanding of ideas.
• Social and cultural realities: Some sustainable changes might affect social and cultural realities, it can affect personal habits and be perceived as controversial. People tend to resist change, especially when it affects deep-rooted traditions.

These are some of the dilemmas that might emerge when Sustainability Citizenship takes over the education narrative. They are yet another opportunity to invite students and their communities to reinvent themselves and their practices.
