Adaptation/Creation of a Scenario

As part of this journey, you are now at the stage where you will create or adapt a scenario for implementing a sustainability citizenship project in your school. It is an opportunity for you to apply the knowledge and insights you’ve gained throughout the journey.

Before coming to the Summer School, you each brought an idea for a project, which you documented using our provided template. Now, with a deeper understanding of various key concepts, it is time to revisit that initial idea and refine it, or perhaps create a completely new scenario that better aligns with what you have learned.

Here are some key elements you should consider while developing or adapting your project scenario:

• Reflect on the principles of sustainability citizenship. Your project should foster active participation, responsibility, and the empowerment of students to engage with and contribute to sustainable practices in their community.
• Ensure your project places students at the center of the learning process. It should encourage student agency, engagement, and ownership of their learning journey.
• Incorporate Universelles Design für das Lernen (UDL) principles to create an inclusive project that addresses the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of all students. Your project should be flexible and provide multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression.
• Consider if your project can integrate connections between formal education and informal learning settings, involve a wide range of stakeholders including educators, students, scientists, policy experts, and community members. Be inspired by the Ganzheitlicher Ansatz der Schule, Offene Schulbildung, Schulen als lebende Labore to create a cohesive and supportive environment for sustainability education.
• Focus on developing key sustainability competencies in students, such as critical thinking, systems thinking, collaborative skills, ethical and values-based decision-making, and cultural competencies related to sustainability. Your project should aim to enhance their skills, preparing students to face and address complex sustainability challenges.
• Be inspired by the good practice examples that provide valuable insights, inspiration, and practical strategies for your own project.
• Develop clear and effective methods to assess students’ learning and progress within the project. Consider using a variety of assessment tools to measure not only students’ knowledge and skills but also their attitudes and behaviors towards sustainability.

With these considerations in mind, take some time to review the template and either adapt your original idea or create a new scenario that reflects the comprehensive understanding you now have.
